BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE TEXTILE DEPARTMENT

Textlie department is pioneering department of DKTE Society’s Textile & Engineering Institute, Ichalkaranji. The department started in the year 1983 to cater the textile industry’s need of skilled technical man power. Department caters five different UG programmes, a Masters programme & also, is recognized centre to conduct Doctoral research under Shivaji University Kolhapur. The department deals with various subjects related with natural & manmade fibres, yarn manufacturing, fabric manufacturing, chemical finishing of textiles, garmenting & fashion aspects, machine manufacturing, maintenance, quality and its evaluation and value addition including engineering and analytical aspects of textiles.

The growth of the department is by virtue of highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty, strong industry institute interaction and alumni network. All the programmes are accredited by NBA thrice. Also Textile Institute Manchester, UK accredited some programmes.

The state of the art laboratories and workshops of the department are outcome of strong industry institute interaction. Machineries worth of around 18 crores are donated from the industries. Laboratories / Workshops are recognized as Research Centers by Shivaji University. Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Ph. D. Scholars are utilizing these laboratories / workshop facilities to carry out fundamental as well as applied research. The department has 3 industry supported training centers.

The department has fetched the grants of Rs. 55 crores from various Government agencies such as Ministry of Textiles, DST, AICTE, etc. on account of research, infrastructural and consultancy projects. Students and faculties of the department are availing the advantages of MOU’s signed with reputed foreign universities and industries. This enabled the department to achieve 100% placement record since 1991.

Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India had given award as a “Best Educational Institute for Textile Engineering” in 2013. The department bagged Best Industry Linked Institute Award instituted by AICTE CII twice in the years 2015 and 2017. The department is also involved in preparing Textile encyclopedia in Marathi along with ‘Rajya Marathi Vikas Sanstha’ of Maharashtra state.

Over 6300 alumni of the department are well established nationally and internationally at various positions in production, quality, maintenance, marketing and entrepreneurship. As a result of strong support and encouragement from the management, the name and fame of the Textlie department has crossed the boundaries and it has reached across the globe.
